Joshua Habermann, Music Director and Leader
Living and composing as a Catholic in Protestant England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, William Byrd (1543 – 1623) practiced his religion clandestinely. The beautiful Cathedral Church of St. John provides the perfect atmosphere for Music from a Secret Chapel; a vocal chamber program featuring eight of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale’s early music specialists. They will perform works of Byrd and Sistine Chapel composers including Giovanni Palestrina’s Surge Illuminare Jerusalem.
There will be no Pre-Concert Talk before this performance due to the film screening of “Singing Revolution” at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe.
