Joshua Habermann, Music Director and Leader
Living and composing as a Catholic in Protestant England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, William Byrd (1543 – 1623) practiced his religion clandestinely. The intimate Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel adjoining the cloistered Carmelite Monastery provides the perfect atmosphere for Music from a Secret Chapel; a vocal chamber program featuring eight of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale’s early music specialists. They will perform works of Byrd and Sistine Chapel composers including Giovanni Palestrina’s Surge Illuminare Jerusalem.
A free pre-concert talk will be given 1.5 hours before the performance. (Register Here)
Pre-concert Lecturer: Dr. Harris Ipock, Resident Conductor, Harvard Glee Club; Vocalist, Santa Fe Desert Chorale.
